Happy Halloween

I found this Halloween display on my back road travels in Lyme - on Sterling City Rd.

Just playing with the color and tint exposures.
I like the pop of orange in the bluish tint.

Pepper Plants

Not my pepper plants because I don't have a green thumb for gardening.
Pepper plants were in the garden at the Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme CT.

Who are they rooting for?

I think I know who this family is rooting for in the World Series.
They have built their own "Green Monster" even with the Citgo sign
which stands in Kenmore Square.

Even though I went to Wheelock College - only two blocks from Fenway Park -  and lived up in the Boston and the Boston area for 10 years, I will admit I have only been to one baseball game and only managed to sit through about two and half innings before having to leave.
I guess you can tell from what I just wrote that I am not a big baseball fan and am not following the world series that closely.

Moon-set

I took this picture before I left for work last week.
The moon-set was just framed by the trees and was still fairly full.
I don't often notice the moon in the morning - too busy.

Confused

My Easter Lily is a little confused and probably in shock with the cold weather.

But I have to admit, I love seeing the bloom now to remind me of the "resurrections" that can take place through all the seasons of our lives.

Night Time Visitor

This spider builds a new web in my window every two nights or so.
I am not sure what type of spider it is but I have named it "Charlotte".

Closer view - sorry it is blurry

Toady

This toad hopped into the garage as I was coming in for the night.
Sorry the photo is so blurry but lighting wasn't great.
I keep hoping that I will see her again.
(Yes, I decided the toad was a girl but I really don't have a reason why.)

Old Gilead Chapel

"The Gilead Chapel, built in 1876 in the town of Waterford, was deconstructed and moved to Moodus in 1969 by Raymond and Carole Schmitt, as they constructed a symbolic community to be known as Historic Johnsonville Village."

"For 60 years the Gilead Chapel served as the interdenominational Sunday School for the youth of Waterford. The instructor, Henry P. Haven, was a firm believer in the virtues of Christian morality as a civilizing force of young people, to stave off temptations, vices and crime."

When I was in PF at Second Congregational Church in New London CT, we went up to take a tour of Johnsonville Village. The Gilead Chapel is part of Second Church's history and outreach to bring Christian Education to the people of Waterford.
Henry P. Havens was one of the founding men of Second Church and the first superintendent of the Church School at Second Church.

Great Blue Heron

Heron was standing in water next to dock two cottages over from my cottage.

Amazing to watch the heron in flight.

Heron much further away from my cottage now.
I loved the reflection of the heron and trees in the water.

Chickens

This chicken was wandering the parking lot of a local country market.
I think she liked the free hand-outs of bread from everyone.
It was amazing to watch people back-up and drive around parking lot very carefully
when the chicken was wandering around.

She even claimed a flower planter as her nest but no eggs were ever found.

These chickens were wandering the side of a back road in Lyme.
They were loving all the bugs they were finding in the grass.

ABC Wednesday

Night Heron

Black-crowned Night-Herons are stocky birds compared to many of their long-limbed heron relatives. They’re most active at night or at dusk, when you may see their ghostly forms flapping out from daytime roosts to forage in wetlands. In the light of day adults are striking in gray-and-black plumage and long white head plumes. These social birds breed in colonies of stick nests usually built over water. They live in fresh, salt, and brackish wetlands and are the most widespread heron in the world.

Red Shouldered Hawk

Red Shouldered Hawk loves to sit on my parents bird feeder looking out over the yard for its dinner or snack. The pictures are a little blurry because they are taken from inside looking through a screen.

Barn Swallow

Barn Swallow - Glistening cobalt blue above and tawny below, Barn Swallows dart gracefully over fields, barnyards, and open water in search of flying insect prey. Look for the long, deeply forked tail that streams out behind this agile flyer and sets it apart from all other North American swallows. Barn Swallows often cruise low, flying just a few inches above the ground or water.

Lake Watcher

I was sitting on my back steps one afternoon
and noticed something curious about this rock.
I spied a "lake watcher" like me.

Can you see the "lake watcher"?
