I spotted this root from an oak tree as I was walking around looking at all the fairy houses. I wonder which of nature's fairies might live inside this house?
All three photos taken this past August on Enders Island in Mystic, CT. One of my favorite places to go for an afternoon of quiet reflection and renewal. I was sitting under a shady pergola looking out toward Watch Hill, RI in the distance.
Wasn't sure if these mouse houses were connected to the OZ exhibit or not because there was no marker to go along with it but I still found them interesting and detailed.
Who is your inner OZ fairy? I wonder if there is a quiz out there somewhere that matches you up with an OZ character?
A little factoid about Margaret Hamilton the Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 movie, she graduated from Wheelock College in Boston to become a Kindergarten teacher before pursuing acting full time. Wheelock College is also my alma mater for my teaching degree but I hope the children don't see me as a wicked witch when I am teaching :)
When the wind blew the monkeys arms, legs and wings moved as if flying.
In the summer this field of poppies might be an inviting place for a nap but it was definitely to chilly and breezy this day. I wouldn't have needed the snow to wake me up because I wouldn't have fallen asleep with all the shivering.
During the month of October the Florence Griswold Museum had an exhibit of Wizard of Oz Fairy Houses. I finally made to the exhibit on Oct 30th, a very gray chilly day. This week I will be posting the photos I took of some of the Oz inspired fairy houses. I will admit though some of the houses must come from the book written by L. Frank Baum which I have never read. I have only seen the classic movie with Judy Garland made in 1939. I guess I will have to read the book now.
